Pens, Pencils, and Paper, Oh My!

By Beverly Perkins

Besides preparing for depositions, the Kramer, Green, Zuckerman, Greene, and Buchsbaum, P.A. law firm was very busy preparing for school this past summer. Although, the Hollywood-based law firm is always dedicated to providing clients with unique, cost-effective legal solutions, they felt the need to help those in need in the community as well.

Pens, pencils and paper were hot commodities in July and August, when the boutique law firm participated in the Broward Education Foundation’s Tools for Schools drive. Attorneys and staff collected essential school supplies for students in need throughout Broward County, amassing large quantities of notebooks, glue sticks, crayons, erasers, paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, rulers and more.

All the donated supplies will be made available to teachers from Broward’s Title I schools at the Tools for Schools Broward store in Pompano Beach. Qualified teachers can shop, free of charge, for school supplies for their economically challenged students.

“Tools for Schools addresses critical gaps in our local education system by providing in-need students with the essential supplies they need to be successful,” said Robert M. Kramer, President of Kramer, Green, Zuckerman, Greene & Buchsbaum P.A. “When families are struggling with extreme poverty, it’s easy to understand why food and shelter would take precedence over school supplies.”

The Broward Education Foundation envisions a community where all Broward County Public School students can each achieve their highest potential. To do so, the Foundation, through community involvement and fundraising, provides support for: Innovative teaching to increase student learning outcomes from pre-K to grade 12; Educational materials for Title 1 school students; Scholarships for qualified graduating high school seniors; and Fiduciary oversight for community members who join in our educational mission by establishing Foundation agency funds.

Law firm partner Mitchell Green added, “Something as small as a notebook or pack of pens might not seem like a big deal to some, but starting the school year with the right supplies can have a profound impact on a student and their ultimate academic success.”
